G3数学学科实践活动

伟大的数学家华罗庚曾经说过:“宇宙之大、粒子之微、火箭之速、化工之巧、地球之变、生活之迷、日月之繁,无处不用数学。”

Hua Luogeng, a great mathematician once said, “We can employ math everywhere, in the vast universe, the small particle, the high-speed rocket, the sophisticated engineering, the ever-changing earth, the mysterious life, and the complicated daily life.”

我们提倡创设“真”数学的学习环境,力求从学生真实熟悉的生活情景和感兴趣的事物出发,为孩子们提供观察和操作的机会,使学生有更多的机会从周围熟悉的事物中学习数学和理解数学,体会到数学就在身边,感受到数学的趣味,这是我校数学学科教学活动的核心任务之一。

We advocate creating a learning environment for “reality” mathematics. From students’ familiar real lives and in line with their interests, it is imperative to provide opportunities for them to observe and operate, thus offering children more access to learn and understand math from familiar things around them. By doing this, students can realize that math exists everywhere and they will find pleasure in learning it, which is one of the core tasks to roll out mathematics teaching activities in our school.

三年级的孩子们已学习了周长、面积的概念,知道了如何计算长方形和正方形的周长及面积。然而只停留在纸笔上的练习我们认为是不够的,数学学习远远不止于课堂上、教室内,数学最终应该帮助人们解决实际问题。为了让学生们体会到数学与生活的息息相关,我们设置孩子们动手测量房间地板长与宽的周末数学实践活动:孩子们亲自选取合适的测量工具、探寻测量路径、准确测量房间的长和宽,接着计算出他们最喜欢的房间的面积和周长。本次实践活动既加深了孩子们对“面积”和“周长”这两个数学概念的理解,又提升了孩子们的动手操作能力和“用数学”的实践能力,这些能力恰恰是同龄孩子们所欠缺的。

The students in Grade Three have learned the concept of perimeter and area and known how to calculate the perimeter and area of a rectangle or a square. However, we don’t think it is enough to do exercises on paper. Mathematics learning is far more than in the class, because its ultimate goal is to help people solve practical problems. In order to train students to understand that math is closely connected with life, we set up a weekend math practice activity for students to measure the length and width of the floor by themselves: Children can accurately measure the length and width of the room by choosing the applicable measuring tool and exploring the measuring routine on their own, and then they calculate the area and perimeter of that room they like best. By this practice, students can not only have deeper understandings of the two mathematical concepts of “area” and “perimeter”, but also improve their abilities of operation and practice by “using mathematics”, which are scarcely found in their peers.

“真”数学实践活动使用英语作为活动语言,数学名词与问题描述皆为英语。融合学科与英语的实践活动能够培养学生双语跨学科的学习与思考能力,同时发展学生动手操作的实践能力。VKBS在不断向前的路上,与学生一起成长。今年暑假,G3学生将在本次实践结果的基础上,开展“真”数学系列活动之二:“给房间铺地板(Flooring)”的实践活动。

English, as the major language in the “reality” mathematical practice, is used to describe the mathematical nouns and problems. The integration of math with English is designed to cultivate students’ abilities of bilingual interdisciplinary learning and thinking, and develop their practical ability. VKBS is continuously moving forward and growing up with our students. This summer, our school, on the basis of this practical outcome, will carry out the second activity of “reality” mathematics for students in Grade 3: “Flooring” in the room.

In the series of practical activities of mathematics, the students will really recognize the close connection between mathematics and life, relish fun from using mathematics, and perceive the charm of mathematics. They love math, love learning math, and love using math!
